Anna Joyce Blacklock-Melchor

Anna Joyce Blacklock-Melchor passed away peacefully at her home in Grand Junction, Colorado, on January 11, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on October 31, 1932, in Provo, Utah, to James Leroy Mayne and Florence Emma Brereton Mayne, Joyce lived a life filled with faith, creativity, and devotion.

In 1933, Joyce’s family moved to Eagle County, Colorado, where her father became one of the first sheep and cattle ranchers in Eagle. Her pioneer heritage, dating back to 1853, was a source of immense pride and deeply shaped her life and values.

Joyce worked as a cosmetologist for 28 years, sharing her artistic touch and love of beauty with others. Her true passion, however, was serving her church. A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Joyce faithfully played the piano and organ for over 50 years,offering her musical talents in service to her faith and community. Joyce was known for her vibrant spirit and creative soul. Her grandchildren were the light and joy of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Vitelio Melchor, of Grand Junction, and her loving children: Debbi Carlin and her husband, Mark, of Stiger, Oklahoma; John Evans and his wife, Stephanie, of Sandy, Utah; Jacqueline Mack of Grand Junction; and Lisa Schuller and her husband, Mark, of Greeley, Colorado. Joyce was blessed with eleven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her younger sister Shirley Ruth Mayne, her son Richard Evans, and her grandsons David Brent Sarti and Brandon Lee Wells. She is also reunited with numerous siblings, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Joyce’s legacy of faith, creativity, and love lives on in the lives of her family and all who knew her. Her pioneer spirit and dedication to her church will forever be remembered. She will be deeply missed.

Funeral services will be held at the Pear Park Ward, LDS Stake Center, located at 2881 Orchard Avenue in Grand Junction, Colorado. A visitation will take place at 10:00 A.M., followed by the service at 11:00 A.M. Dinner will be served immediately following the service. Interment will be held at Rosebud Cemetery in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, at 3:00 P.M.
