Catherine (Kaye) Snyder died at home in Grand Junction on September 3, 2024 She was 88 years old.
Kaye was born June 20, 1936 in Saginaw Michigan to Ernest and Catherine (Shea) Eckerman. She lived with her family in Chicago for her first seven years while her parents were in school. They then moved to Saginaw where she grew up. She had three brothers – Bill, Chuck and Jim. Jim survives and lives in Saginaw. She was a graduate of the University of Michigan. Following a six-year romance, Kaye married Henry Snyder, also of Saginaw. They had three children – Lynn (David) Burdick of Decatur, Illinois; Mark (Kristi) of Castle Rock, Colorado; and Cathy (Patrick) Ebel of Grand Junction, Colorado. Through marriages and blended families Kaye and Henry had ten grandchildren. Kaye was a teacher and, during their years of moving around the country, was a respected and valuable volunteer – School Board President in Wisconsin, Arts Council Executive in New York, member of public radio development team in Grand Junction, and early volunteer for Grand Valley Catholic Outreach after she retired from teaching (at Fruita Monument High School and West Middle School) in 1996. As those who knew her would have expected – she died gently, she died peacefully, and she left a huge hole in our world.
Memorial contributions could be made to Grand Valley Catholic Outreach or to HopeWest Hospice of Grand Junction Colorado.
