George Daniel Stagg, affectionately known as "Dan," passed away on November 10, 2024, in Fruita, Colorado, at the age of 59. Born on August 26, 1965, in Kansas, Dan’s life was marked by service, dedication, and love for his family.
Dan served proudly in the United States Marine Corps for over a decade. His commitment to duty was exemplified in his role as a Weapons Armorer, where he received numerous accolades, including the Rifle Expert Badge six times and the Pistol Expert Badge twice. He earned various awards such as the Good Conduct Medal (two stars), Meritorious Unit Commendation, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, and the Navy Achievement Medal. His motto in life was Semper Fidelis, reflecting his lifelong dedication to the Marine Corps and his fellow Marines.
Throughout his varied career, Dan also made significant contributions as part owner of Action Auto, a manager for Auto Zone, and a Lieutenant for the Department of Corrections. He was known for his blunt honesty and straightforwardness, often espousing strong political beliefs and engaging in spirited discussions.
Dan’s personal life was filled with moments of joy and wisdom. He was a cherished husband to Janice Ann Stagg for over 30 years, he was a steadfast partner who provided unwavering support during both joyous and challenging times. His wife fondly remembers how he always offered sound advice, whether it was what she wanted to hear or not, and the most meaningful gift he bestowed upon her was encouraging her to attend church, which profoundly impacted their lives.
As a father, Dan took immense pride in his three sons: George Daniel Stagg Jr., born on May 1, 1995; Jedidiah (Jed) Beau Stagg, born on January 19, 1998; and Jeremiah (Jerry) Ian Stagg, born on July 26, 2002. He often celebrated their accomplishments and maintained a loving connection, even asking Janice to reach out to them when he missed them.
Dan had a multitude of interests and hobbies, ranging from boating and fishing to hunting and shooting. In his youth, he engaged in rodeo, earning accolades in bull riding and bareback riding, including a champion buckle in 1986. He cherished spending quality time gaming with his boys and was proud of a recent gift—a building project of an AR-15 from his sons, which he embraced with joy and enthusiasm.
Dan leaves behind not only his beloved wife and sons but also his future daughter-in-law Sarah Alghawas, along with his treasured grandson, Avery, who he affectionately called "Pop-pop." He is also survived by his sisters, Debbie Blanchett, Trisha Becker, and Gracie Hayes, and multiple nieces, nephews, and extended family members whom he held dear.
Dan was preceded in death by his mother, June Stagg; father, Pete Stagg; and sister, Donna Stagg. His family and friends remember him as a master storyteller with a quick wit, whose humor and engaging nature created lasting memories for those fortunate enough to know him.
