Margie Ellen Olson was born October 27, 1934, in Elsie County, NE, to Isaac and Bessie Pegg. She was the fifth of six children and was raised on a farm until eighth grade when a tornado destroyed the farm buildings and the family relocated to the Grand Junction area to live on a smaller farm. Margie always commented about seeing the mountains for the first time and the giant cottonwood trees that lined their driveway.
Margie attended Central High School, where she was a charismatic young woman who participated in Glee Club and was elected Homecoming Queen. In November 1952, Margie married Jack Ray at Pear Park Baptist Church. Margie and Jack had three children: Kathy (Burgess), Roger Ray and Randy Ray.
In June,1964, Margie married James (Jim) Holohan and they had a son, Clancy. Margie took great pride with her work at City Market and was well known and respected there. They lived in Carbondale and Alaska prior to relocating back to Grand Junction in 1973 where she worked at US West as an engineering clerk until she retired in 1991.
After Jim’s death, Margie was reacquainted with a former classmate, David W. Olson, and the two were married in October 1991 at New Horizons Four Square Church in Grand Junction. Margie’s family grew to include Dave’s four children Jess, George, Jackie and Dalene. Margie and Dave enjoyed a full and exciting life of traveling in Dave’s Cessna airplane, camping all over the country, boating and especially just being together. They joined the Bethel Assembly of God Church, where they had a large church family. Margie was a faithful prayer warrior and a dedicated member of the congregation.
Dave lovingly cared for Margie through her battle with Parkinson’s Disease and Lewy Body Dementia until she passed away on January 11, 2025, at the Center at Foresight in Grand Junction with Dave and family by her side.
Margie is survived by her husband Dave, her daughter Kathy (Chris) Burgess of Durango, her son Clancy Holohan of Fruita, and her step-children George Olson of Wyoming, Jackie (Bill) Hodson of Delta, and Dalene (Larry) Crites of Grand Junction.
