Merry May Ryden

May 14, 1958 — January 10, 2025

Merry May Ryden, 66, of New Castle, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2025, following a courageous six-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born on May 14, 1958, in Rifle, Colorado, Merry grew up immersed in the beauty and hard work of ranch life. She graduated from Rifle High School in 1976. Her passion for agriculture and community involvement was evident early on through her participation in 4-H and FFA. In 1973, Merry was crowned Garfield County 4-H Fair Queen.

Merry married Fred Dice, and they had three children: Carrie, TJ, and Tyler. Merry’s unwavering devotion to her family remained a cornerstone of her life. She enjoyed riding her cherished horses, working on the ranch, and caring for her cows and many other animals.

Merry is survived by her sons, TJ (Laura) and Tyler (Christine); her grandchildren, Koby, Kyle, Kylie (Kade), Allie, Joe Wayne, Gertie, and Joseph Tyler; and her great-granddaughter, Kennedy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, C. Franklin and Carolyn Ryden; her brothers, Richard and Danny Ryden; her daughter, Carrie Dice; and her granddaughter, Isabella Dice.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Lakewood Villa and Choice Hospice for their compassionate care during Merry’s final years.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to support Alzheimer’s research in Merry’s memory.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
