Patrick L. Kanda, affectionately known as Pat, was born on September 1, 1954, in Grand Junction, Colorado, where he continued to leave a lasting impact until his passing on March 18, 2025. A beloved figure in his community, Pat dedicated more than three decades to his career as a Finance Manager at Grand Valley Power, successfully guiding the company through numerous financial challenges during his tenure. His commitment to excellence and his financial acumen made him a respected leader in the organization.
An alumnus of Colorado Mesa University, Pat earned his Bachelor's degree in accounting, laying the foundation for a career that demonstrated not only professional skill but also a deep desire to give back to the community that nurtured him. In addition to his primary career, he shared his knowledge and passion for learning as a substitute teacher at Central High School and by tutoring students in math, fostering a new generation's understanding of the subject.
Pat was not only renowned for his professional life but also for his vibrant personality. He was a true social butterfly, effortlessly making friends with everyone he met. His warm nature was exemplified in his familiar phrase, “If there’s anything I can do for you, let me know,” reflecting his genuine desire to help others. His charitable spirit was evident in his willingness to support various causes, which endeared him to many in his community.
Pat's life was also rich with hobbies and interests. He played baseball as a child and continued his enthusiasm for the game as a coach in his adult years. He was an avid bowler, participated in numerous leagues, enjoyed golfing, and found pleasure in fishing, often sharing these experiences with family and friends. His love for baseball extended into his later life as he proudly participated in the JUCO Baseball Tournament during his college years, helping sponsor and host many teams over the years.
His accomplishments extended beyond sports and included significant community involvement. He served on the School Board from 1993 to 1995 and was active in the Orchard Mesa Lions Club from 1993 to 2008, later transitioning to the Clifton Club, where he was both treasurer and president. Pat also significantly contributed to the local Republican Party as treasurer, and devoted his efforts to the Grand Valley Health Fair for five consecutive years.
Pat is survived by his sons, John Teck and Michael Teck (Mallory), grandsons Landon and Grant Teck, his sweetheart Denyce Cornell, sister Shari Price (Kevin), niece Michelle Martinez (Ben), nephew Matthew Price, great nephew RJ Martinez, and great niece Macey Martinez. He cherished lifelong friendships with Debbie and Jerry DeRose and the entire DeRose/Nachtman families, who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his cherished sister, Debbie Kanda, and his devoted parents, Jim Kanda and Ruth Ward Tilton.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Pat's honor on May 31, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Moose Lodge 270, located at 567 25 1/2 Rd, Grand Junction, Colorado.
Pat Kanda's legacy lives on in the hearts of those he touched through his kindness, generosity, and unyielding commitment to his family and community. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
