Stephen Mitchell White returned home January 15, 2023. He was born December 23, 1960 in Denver,
CO, to Anne Whitley Foraker. Later adopted by a step-father, James White, he was considered a son by
Anne’s first husband, Frank Foraker. Stephen spent his youth moving between the cities of Palisade,
Dallas, Glenwood Springs, and Denver. His best childhood memories were of spending time with his
Grandma Whitley, with whom he lived during his toddler and teenage years.
After high school, he served in the U.S. Navy before coming back to Colorado and settling down. In
1987, he married Mary Keeler, a love that would last the rest of their lives. They had several daughters
together and through them, he would become involved with Colorado Discover Ability and Special
Olympics. He was also active with Mesa County Search and Rescue for several years and took pride in
his place at Mesa State College as a diving instructor. Although he worked a variety of jobs, he felt his
20+ year career in nursing was his true calling - he loved caring for his patients and helping their families,
even when it impacted his own health.
A man of faith, Stephen enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, cooking, and sharpening straight
razors. He also had a love of horror and sci-fi films and would often spend hours looking for the newest
B-rated movies he could find.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, daughters Shiloh White and Courtnie (Brandon) Aitken, six
grandchildren, and five siblings. He is preceded in death by his daughters Amanda (Casey) Speaker and
McKenzie White, his grandson Deegan Speaker, and his brother Michael Foraker.
