Thomas Ray Crumpton, 73, was born January 16, 1951, in Pueblo, Colorado. He
passed into the loving arms of Jesus July 12, 2024 in Grand Junction, Colorado, at
Hopewest Hospice. Tom grew up in Alamosa, Colorado, and graduated from
Alamosa High School. While driving a delivery truck for Smith Chemicals in Grand
Junction, he learned of an opening for a treatment plant operator at the Ute Water
Conservancy District. He applied and got the job and there began years of self
teaching about domestic water treatment. He retired in 2007 as Superintendent of
Treatment and Supply after 33 years there. After retirement Tom started a remodel
business with his stepson and retired from that in 2018. His passion in life was
fishing. He was happiest when he was out on his boat with his fishing line in the
water—and man could he catch fish. There were many tournaments he participated
in with friends and/or his brother, Jeff.
Tom was kind, compassionate, caring and had a great sense of humor. He always
had a gentle and kind demeanor. He was a Stephens Minister, walking alongside
folks who were needing someone to listen when they were having life challenges.
Along with his wife, Rita, he volunteered at the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office as a
Victim Advocate and a member of the Citizens on Patrol. He was an Elder at
Monument Presbyterian Church and the official “unofficial” greeter every Sunday
morning until health issues forced him to watch services from home. He
particularly enjoyed the hugs from the ladies and the “high fives” from the children.
Tom was secure in the knowledge that he would meet his Lord and Savior when the
time came. During the 8 months he fought illness his spirit remained strong and his
faith in Jesus Christ was never in doubt. He met every challenge with courage, grace
and strength in that knowledge. Tom made this world a better place -- one cannot
ask for much more of one's self or anyone else. His memory will be a blessing to all
who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Rita, brother Jeff (Julie), nephews Patrick
and John, great niece Sami and stepson John Mann.
A Celebration of Life Well Lived in Service will be held on Saturday, August 10,
2024, at 10:00 A.M. at Monument Presbyterian Church located at 2018 S.
Broadway, Grand Junction, Colorado. Tom requested that his ashes be spread at
his favorite fishing spot. This will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers
memorial contributions may be made to Monument Presbyterian Church.
Tom will be missed and will forever be in our hearts.
