Weston Lucas Nichols, loving husband, father, son, and brother, passed away on October 27,
2023, at the age of 43. Wes was born on October 31, 1979, in Boone, IA, to Peggy Wilson
James and Clinton Nichols.
Wes grew up in Hayden and Grand Junction before moving to Utah and working in the printing
industry for several years. After returning to the Grand Valley, he sold cell phones at Sam’s Club
and became known and appreciated by an amazing number of people in the valley. Wes was
rightfully very proud of his efforts to overcome substance dependency in his life, and that
success was a source of inspiration for his family and friends.
He found the love of his life, Mary, when he sold her a phone on October 24, 2016. He became
her friend and confidante, significant other, fiancé, and four years later, on October 24 they were
married giving him the title of husband and father. He excelled at each.
Wes had a wicked sense of humor and a plethora of dad jokes and puns. His collection of funny
t-shirts was vast, and sometimes borderline inappropriate. He never failed to make those
around him smile with light-hearted memes on social media or in a text message out of the blue.
Wes had a smile and kind word for everyone he met, and was always there for his family and
friends with a helping hand. He was willing to give his time by taking on whatever he could to
make it easier for others. He was loved and treasured by all who knew him.
Wes had a love for hiking and the outdoors. His hiking boot collection rivaled his t-shirt
collection, and the brighter and more vivid the color, the more he loved them. He cherished
riding bikes through Glenwood Canyon or hiking Crag Crest Trail on the Grand Mesa with his
mom. The two of them were confidantes in life, and carried one another through the toughest
times they faced over the years.
He is survived by his wife Mary and (step)son Antonio, his parents Peggy James (George) and
Clint (Becky) Nichols, brothers Terry (Marni) Meyers, Gary Meyers, Justin Nichols, and Jarrod
Nichols. Uncle “Wessie” will be missed by his nieces Samantha, Emily, and Cora and nephew
Cash.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Appleton Christian Church, located at 2510 I-70 Frontage
Road on December 9, 2023, at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be
made in his name to the Colorado Trail Foundation or Rocky Mountain Bighorn Society.
