William Michael Vidmar, a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on August 4, 2024 in Grand Junction, Colorado at the age of 93. Born on May 27, 1931 in Somerset, Colorado, he was the only son of Michael and Angelina Vidmar.
Bill was married to Ruth Marie Charles on August 3, 1954. Their 52 years of marriage were filled with love and mutual support until Ruth’s passing in July 2006.
Bill pursued higher education at the Colorado School of Mines where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. This academic achievement set the foundation for a distinguished career. He then proudly served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army from June 22, 1955 to June 21, 1957.
He enjoyed a successful career with the Bureau of Reclamationas a Civil Engineer, retiring in 1986.
Bill is survived by his four children: Deb Roberts, Ed (Connie)Vidmar, Andy (Heidi) Vidmar, and Don (Leslie) Vidmar. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Vidmar, who passed away in June 2019. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Additionally, he is survived by his three sisters: Madeline Zimmerman, Lila McLean, and Shirley (Gary) Carr and was preceded in death by one sister Francis (Larry) Nelson.
Bill enjoyed the outdoors: hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling, and traveling to Canada and Alaska. He shared his passion for these activities with his family.
A graveside service will be held on August 9, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. at Orchard Mesa Cemetery.
